STEARNS GETS FLORIDA TIMES-UNION ENDORSEMENT – “STEARNS DESERVES ANOTHER TERM”
STEARNS OUTSHINES OPPONENTS AT CANDIDATE FORUM HELD BY TIMES-UNION
AUGUST 7, 2012 – The Florida Times-Union, the premier newspaper of northeast Florida, today endorsed Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL) in the August 14th primary for Congressional District 3. “His reliably conservative record has earned Stearns accolades from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Citizens against Government Waste,” states the endorsement. Stearns recently joined his opponents in a debate format where they answered questions and responded to comments.
The editorial board for the Times-Union lauded Stearns’ record of building support for legislation and for his strong record of accomplishments. The endorsement highlighted his role as Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, “How effective has Stearns been?… It was Stearns who led the House committee hearings on the disastrous federal loan guarantee program involving the bankrupt Solyndra solar energy company.”
In addition, Stearns impressed the board with his consistent conservatism, “He is similarly committed to the mainstream Republican positions opposing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and in support of U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and his budget proposals.” Stearns’ work for the Jacksonville area while opposing run-away spending is also noted, “Stearns is a strong supporter of the Jacksonville port and says funding can be provided without using earmarks.”
“I deeply appreciate this endorsement and the recognition of my strong conservative record and my work on behalf of Jacksonville and Clay County,” said Stearns.
